Synopsis:

As SMEs increasingly adopt digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the nature of business risk is evolving rapidly. Cyber threats, data breaches and AI-related risks are no longer purely technical issues — they pose governance and leadership challenges to all organisations.

This session provides practical insights into the key cybersecurity and AI risks facing SMEs today and why it is critical to establish clear ownership of these risks within the organisation.

Participants will gain an understanding of the “CISO function” (Chief Information Security Officer) — the responsibilities required to oversee technology and cyber risk — regardless of whether fulfilled in-house or through external support.

Presentation outline:

• Why SMEs are increasingly targeted
• Cybersecurity as a governance responsibility
• Understanding the CISO function and accountability
• Emerging risks from AI and digital tools
• Practical steps to strengthen resilience
